Aki Iwai from Japan has made headlines with her performance at the Portland Classic, securing the lead after a round of 64 strokes, which is 8-under par. She made five birdies and three eagles, allowing her to solidify her position at the top with a total score of 18 strokes under par.

Iwai is aiming to become the LPGA Tour champion this year, following her sister, Chisato, who has already won in Mexico. In calm conditions at the Columbia Edgewater course, Aki showcased her aggressive play, hitting a drive up to 3 feet for eagle and 1 foot for birdie.

Grace Kim from Australia occupies the second position after a round of 67, where she also made an eagle. Linn Grant, who won the Dana Open in 2023, is currently third at 14 strokes under par. Chisato Iwai is also continuing her competition, sitting at 11 strokes under par.

The Portland Classic, established in 1972, is the longest-running non-major tournament on the LPGA Tour, apart from the main championships.
