Suspension of Trade Talks Between the USA and India Linked to Tariffs

  • The USA has suspended trade talks with India, originally scheduled for the end of September.
  • The additional 25% tariff on Indian goods will take effect from September 27.
  • Negotiations between the countries are ongoing through various channels, despite the suspension.

The United States has suspended trade negotiations with India, originally planned for September 25 to 29. This was reported by the Indian newspaper The Indian Express, citing sources familiar with the situation.

This round of negotiations was supposed to take place in New Delhi, but it has now been postponed to a later date. It is noted that the USA plans to introduce an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods starting September 27, which has provoked discontent among Indian manufacturers.

Negotiations between the USA and India had been ongoing since the summer, but no agreement was reached due to differences regarding the opening of the agricultural and dairy sectors in India, as well as the import of Russian oil. Earlier, President Donald Trump announced the introduction of new tariffs on Indian goods, which heightened tensions between the countries.

The Indian government continues to conduct negotiations through various channels, including official meetings and diplomatic contacts, despite the suspension of planned consultations.
