Claudia Hollingsworth, a 20-year-old athlete from Victoria, set a new Australian record at a distance of 800 meters, completing the distance in 1 minute 57.67 seconds at the Diamond League event in Polish city Chorzów on August 17, 2025. This achievement has become an important signal ahead of the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, which will take place next month.
Hollingsworth surpassed the previous record set by Keely Hodgkinson, who clocked 1 minute 57.78 seconds. In this race, also participating was Ebbie Coldwell, who finished with a time of 1 minute 57.70 seconds, which was also faster than the previous record.
In another part of the competition, Nikola Olislagers returned to compete after six weeks off and took second place in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.97 meters. Meanwhile, Curtis Marshall, the bronze medalist at the 2023 World Championships, finished with a result of 5.90 meters in the pole vault.
Keely Hodgkinson, the Olympic champion, also returned to compete, setting a new meeting record at 800 meters with a time of 1 minute 54.74 seconds. She was competing for the first time after 376 days of absence due to injury. Hodgkinson surpassed the previous record from Kenya and Bottsvani, demonstrating an impressive form ahead of the World Championships.
Also, Kenyan athlete Faith Kipyegon had the opportunity to compete for the world record at 3000 meters, but finished with the second best time in history - 8 minutes 7.04 seconds.
