Air Canada Resumes Flights After Ending Strike

  • Air Canada resumes flights after the end of the flight attendants' strike.
  • More than 10,000 flight attendants participated in the strike to demand better pay.
  • Some flight cancellations are expected in the coming days.

Air Canada announced the resumption of flights last week following the Canadian Industrial Relations Board's (CIRB) decision to end the strike, which led to the cancellation of over 700 flights.

The board issued the ruling, along with which all Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge flight attendants are expected to return to their duties by 2:00 PM Eastern Time. Canada's Minister of Labour, Patty Hajdu, initiated a binding arbitration process to extend the agreement to achieve a new contract.

More than 10,000 flight attendants stopped working due to disputes over wages and schedules. This pointed to underlying issues with travel across the globe, as nearly 100,000 travelers were forced to seek alternatives or remain at their locations.

Air Canada stated that the resumption of operations would not be immediate, but a full return to normal operations would take several days. During this time, some flights will be canceled for the next 7-10 days until the schedule stabilizes.
