Ryan Reynolds, co-owner of Wrexham, stated that he and Rob McElhenney do not accept any "football decisions" within the club's Championship framework.
Wrexham demonstrated a remarkable rise under the leadership of its Hollywood owners, becoming the first team in the history of top-flight English football to achieve three consecutive promotions in the same season.
Reynolds and McElhenney played their match at the SToK Cae Ras stadium, where the team played its first home match in the second division of English football since April 1982. However, the team suffered a defeat against West Bromwich with a score of 3-2, remaining without points after two matches.
Reynolds noted that they have a "very soft management style." "Our task is to listen, learn, and understand the history. It’s a wonderful position for any ownership group — simply to support and understand that history," he said.
He also emphasized that due to this management style, they could have relationships with all the club's players, which they cannot allow themselves to have many owners. Wrexham has achieved commercial success, thanks to the popularity of Reynolds and McElhenney, and also the documentary series "Welcome to Wrexham," which allowed them to invest in the Phil Parkinson-led team with nine new signings this summer.
This summer, Wrexham broke their transfer record three times, including signing Welsh striker Nate Broadhead for a fee of up to 10 million pounds sterling. McElhenney stated that they want to receive recognition, but they really do not have any influence on what happens on the pitch.
"We have our specific role — to be the clowns and to tell the story as best as we can," he said, adding that they consider the work of the coaching staff and the playing team as essential.
