Hurricane Erin brings rain to Puerto Rico and threatens the USA
- Hurricane Erin remains strong, with maximum winds of 125 miles per hour.
- In Puerto Rico, significant rainfall is expected, which could lead to flooding.
- External bands of the hurricane may impact the eastern coastline of the USA.
Hurricane Erin, which on August 17, 2025, continues to move towards Puerto Rico and other territories, remains a powerful hurricane category 3, with maximum wind speeds of 125 miles per hour. It is moving west-northwest at a speed of 14 miles per hour. The government of the Virgin Islands has issued a warning about tropical storm conditions in the region.
At this moment, Hurricane Erin has already brought significant rainfall to Puerto Rico, with forecasts of rain lasting from 4 to 8 days, which could lead to flooding and landslides. The hurricane reached category 5 on Saturday, August 16, but has since weakened to category 3, although this weakening is considered temporary.
Currently, Erin is not expected to make landfall on the US mainland, but its external rain bands could impact the eastern coastline of the USA, causing hazardous waves and rip currents. Currently, warnings about hazardous conditions remain in effect for the eastern coastline of Northern Carolina and the central Atlantic.
The forecast for the brightest days predicts that Hurricane Erin will be moving to the northern coast, passing between the Bermudian Islands and the eastern coastline of the USA. Although significant land impact is not expected, hazardous conditions can still arise due to the increased size of the hurricane.
