- Sally Rooney continues to support Palestine Action, using proceeds from book sales.
- More than 700 people have been banned following the group's protest in July 2025.
- The Minister of Internal Affairs defends the decision to ban, citing security threats.
The author of novels, Sally Rooney, confirmed that she will continue to support the group Palestine Action, despite it being designated as a terrorist organization in Great Britain. In her article in Irish Times, Rooney stated that she intends to use proceeds from her work to support the activities of this group, as well as for direct actions against genocide.
The group Palestine Action was banned by the government on July 5, 2025, and of those, more than 700 people were banned, including over 500 participants of the protest in central London. The Minister of Internal Affairs of Great Britain, Yvette Cooper, defended the decision to ban, asserting that the group is larger than a typical protest organization, and that there are ongoing threats regarding future attacks.
Rooney expressed concern about the consequences of this ban for cultural and intellectual life in Great Britain, stating that the government has deprived its citizens of fundamental rights and freedoms in the name of protecting relations with Israel. She also mentioned that she is ready to continue using her popularity and proceeds from book sales to support Palestine Action, even if this may be legally recognized as supporting terrorism under British law.
Cooper asserts that the actions of Palestine Action, including the protest action at RAF Brize Norton, are examples of violence, and not legitimate protest activities. In response to this, Rooney stressed that the cultural consequences of the ban could be significant, as many writers and artists may not be able to safely travel to Great Britain for public appearances.
