Quarterback Cleveland Browns Dillion Gabriel dismissed feelings about the fact that his comment regarding "entertainers" in the NFL was directed at his teammate Shedeur Sanders. Gabriel emphasized that his main task is competition, not creating a superteam.
During the Browns' preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Gabriel completed 13 of 18 passes for 143 yards, but also allowed interceptions. After the game, he commented that "there are entertainers and there are competitors, and I fully understand that." Many people in the media thought this was a jab at Sanders, the son of famous Deion Sanders, who received significant attention from ESPN after being selected in the draft.
Gabriel later clarified that his comment referred to journalists, not his teammates. "I never made similar remarks about Sanders," said Gabriel. He also added that "we both have our own obligations."
Shedeur Sanders, who did not play in this match due to injury, remains in fourth place in the depth chart for the starting spot, but some experts believe he could get a chance if Joe Flacco, the likely starting quarterback, does not perform up to expectations.
Head coach Cleveland Browns Kevin Stefanski supported Gabriel, stating that not all interceptions are equal, and that he also needs to work on improving interactions with teammates.
