Strengthening Transatlantic Unity for Peace in Ukraine

Transatlantic unity is vital for achieving sustainable peace in Ukraine. The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, emphasized this in a post on social media X after meeting with Coalition leaders. He noted that Ukraine's sovereign right to determine the conditions of peace must be respected.

Michel also called for maintaining pressure on Russia, which will not reach an agreement on a ceasefire. He expressed gratitude to the United States for their readiness to provide security guarantees to Ukraine to prevent further aggression from Russia.

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the "peace" proposed by Russia actually signifies capitulation for Ukraine. He stressed that allies should not show weakness against Russia, as it could lead to new conflicts.

The EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Mathernova, stated that the peace that requires concessions from Ukraine in the east is unacceptable. She stated that the EU will not accept a peace that is simply a synonym for capitulation and that peace must be based on the principles of international law.

A meeting of NATO and EU leaders with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took place on August 17 as part of the Coalition of Allies, prior to his visit to Washington for a meeting with Trump.
