Trump discusses potential territorial concessions during meeting with Zelensky
- Trump supported the idea of territorial concessions for Ukraine
- Zelensky is only ready to discuss territory with Putin
- The meeting between Trump and Zelensky does not guarantee further negotiations with Russia
This is reported by Ukrayinska Pravda, RBC Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump announced in a social media post that Ukraine should be ready to possibly concede parts of its territory to Russia, otherwise it could lose even more. This information was supported by a repost from a user on Truth Social.
During the meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which took place on August 17, 2025, Trump planned to discuss the details of ending the war. However, the White House does not expect that this meeting will lead to a trilateral summit with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.
According to a representative of the White House, it is planned that a trilateral meeting with Trump, Zelensky, and Putin could take place by the end of this week, but it is not worth expecting quick results.
At the beginning of August, Trump announced plans for a meeting with Putin, during which the terms of a peace agreement were discussed, including possible territorial concessions from Ukraine. In particular, Russia demanded the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donetsk region in exchange for the freezing of front lines in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.
Zelensky stated that he was ready to discuss territorial issues only at a trilateral meeting with Putin. At the moment, he echoed Russia's demands for the withdrawal of troops.
