Meeting of Zelensky with European Leaders to Discuss the War

On August 18, 2025, a war with Russia continues in Ukraine. On Monday, August 18, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky is meeting with the President of the USA Donald Trump at the White House. Along with him, there will be leaders from several European countries, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary General Mark Milley.

According to the words of the U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Steve Vitkoff, Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to provide "strong security guarantees" for Ukraine. Zelensky characterized this as a historic decision. However, he emphasized that these guarantees should be developed with the participation of Europe.

On the other hand, fighting continues in Ukraine. In the Donetsk region, according to Governor Vadim Filashkin, Russian troops killed five people and wounded four. In response, Ukrainian forces dealt strikes on 13 targets in Russia, using 111 drones.

As of 10:00 PM on August 17, 127 combat engagements have been recorded on the front. The most battles took place in the direction of Pokrovsk. Russian troops executed 52 airstrikes and used 1611 drone-camouflage. It is noted that Ukrainian forces eliminated 900 Russian soldiers during the period of August 16-17.
