Akie Iwai won the Portland Classic in her LPGA debut

September 17, 2025, Portland, Oregon. Akie Iwai triumphed in her second tournament, becoming the champion of the Portland Classic on the LPGA Tour. She finished the final round with a score of 6 under par, allowing her to win by a margin of four strokes.
Akie Iwai completed the round without a bogey, missing putts on the last two holes. Her final shot on the 18th hole was from a distance of 18 feet, after which Chisato opted to withdraw from the field and congratulated her with champagne.
This 23-year-old Japanese player won in her first season on the LPGA Tour, having previously secured six victories on the JLPGA Tour. She also finished second in tournaments in Thailand and Los Angeles. In the previous week, Chisato Iwai finished in third place with a score of 64 strokes, leaving her at five under par.
The champion concluded the tournament with a score of 24 under par (264 strokes). She started with two rounds of 67, and then shot 64 on Saturday, which gave her a two-stroke lead heading into the final round.
American Gurleen Kaur took second place, closing the tournament with a score of 65 strokes, which became her best achievement in her career. Linn Grant from Sweden also showed 67 strokes, finishing at 19 under par, the same as Chisato Iwai. Grace Kim from Australia finished with 18 strokes under par.
Amateur Kiara Romero, who debuted on the tour, showed 64 strokes and tied for seventh place with a score of 16 strokes under par. She won the 2023 U.S. Girls' Junior and the 2025 Big Ten title.
The Portland Classic is the longest-running non-major event on the LPGA Tour, held since 1972, with the exception of the majors.
