The European Commissioner for Defense, Andrius Kubilius, expressed optimism regarding the potential for investment from the SAFE Fund in Ukraine's defense industry. The SAFE Fund, amounting to €150 billion, is designed to support defense initiatives in EU countries, including Ukraine.
Kubilius noted that it is likely that by November, the European Commission will announce which part of the credits from SAFE will be allocated to Ukraine. He emphasized that interest in Ukraine's defense industry from European countries is growing, indicating its attractiveness.
According to information received during the event on raising Ukraine's national profile in the European Parliament, Kubilius stated that many EU member states are interested in utilizing the SAFE instrument to support Ukraine. He wants Ukraine to be able to access these credits without any conditions, as EU countries can use them to purchase military products in Ukraine or jointly with Ukrainian manufacturers.
Participants in the SAFE program must submit detailed expenditure plans to the European Commission by the end of November 2025, which is an important step in the process of attracting financing.
Kubilius also emphasized the importance of Ukraine's selection in defining its future, stressing that no country, including Russia, has the right to veto this choice.
