- Penge set a course record with a bogey-free 63.
Matthew Fitzpatrick from Great Britain advances to the final round of the British Masters with a solid lead after he showed a result of four under par on Saturday, allowing him to total 12 under par overall. Fitzpatrick, who won his first professional tournament at the British Masters in 2015, made four birdies and two bogeys, as well as an eagle on the 15th hole.
Fitzpatrick is currently ahead of Sweden's Alexander Norén by one shot, while two shots behind are Nikolai Højgaard and Marco Penge, who are also competing in the tournament. Højgaard, who has a chance to earn an automatic place on the Ryder Cup team, needs to finish in the top 29 or better to secure the last guaranteed spot.
On Saturday, Højgaard shot a score of 69, while Penge set a course record by shooting a bogey-free 63, including nine birdies. This result moved him up to third place, and now he is trying to overtake team captain Luke Donald to take his spot on the Ryder Cup team, which will take place from September 26 to 28 in New York.
Fitzpatrick, who is hoping for a captain's pick, stated that his goal for this tournament is to secure a spot in the Ryder Cup. He emphasized that his performance is high, but it is important to maintain a low score.
