MÖNCHENGLADBACH, Germany — American winger Gio Reyna has signed a contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach, transferring from Borussia Dortmund. The agreement is valid until June 2028.

Reyna, a 22-year-old soccer player, previously played for Dortmund since 2019, but his career there was hampered by injuries and limited playing time. In the last season, he played only three matches in the Bundesliga, while the other half of the season he spent on loan at Nottingham Forest.

The sporting director of Gladbach, Roland Virkus, noted that the club has been following Reyna for some time and appreciates his skills. "He is well-known in the Bundesliga and can play in different attacking positions," said Virkus.

Reyna is considered one of the most promising American soccer players, and he is the son of former U.S. national team captain Claudio Reyna. For the national team, he has played 32 matches and scored eight goals.

At his new club, Reyna hopes to revive his career and return to the U.S. national team for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Borussia Mönchengladbach finished last season in 10th place in the Bundesliga and will start the new season with a match against Hamburg this weekend.
