Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reached out to Melania Trump, urging her to turn attention to the children suffering as a result of the war in Gaza. In a letter published on Saturday, Erdogan praised the support that Melania Trump has provided to children affected by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Erdogan stated that Gaza has become "a center for children" and called on Trump to unite efforts to combat this humanitarian crisis. The letter was written on the official letterhead of the United Nations, which confirms that nearly half a million people are suffering from famine in Gaza, and 132,000 children are at risk of starvation.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed hope that the sensitivity shown by Melania Trump towards Ukrainian children would also extend to the children in Gaza. He also urged Trump to reach out to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with a request to address the humanitarian crisis in the region.
It should be noted that military actions in Gaza began on July 7, 2023, when Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel, resulting in the deaths of nearly 1200 people. Since then, according to the Ministry of Health of Gaza, over 62,000 Palestinians have been killed.
According to recent data, most of the population of Gaza has experienced displacement, and 90% of residential buildings have been damaged or destroyed.
