Emma Raducanu returns to a happy place at the US Open

  • Emma Raducanu returns to the US Open, feeling happy.
  • The tennis player has a new coach, Francois Roig, who is helping her prepare.
  • Raducanu hopes to achieve her first win at the US Open since 2021.

This was reported by Sky Sports, ESPN.

Emma Raducanu again sees Flushing Meadows as a "happy place" four years after her victory at the US Open.

The 22-year-old tennis player achieved one of the biggest sporting feats by winning the title, qualifying in 2021, but has not won a single match in this tournament for three years since then.

Last year, she came in negatively and was emotional after losing to Sofia Kenin, but this year Raducanu is confidently discussing her campaign in New York, which starts on Sunday against Japanese qualifier Eri Shibahara.

"I definitely found it hard to return in 2022," Raducanu said. "Now I feel I can return to the US Open and enjoy the memories I made here and write about it. This is truly a happy place for me."

For the first time in her career, Raducanu has found stability in her performances, overcoming problems with injuries and getting close to the top 30 in the world.

She is again the clear British number one and has a new full-time coach – experienced Spaniard Francois Roig, who spent nearly two decades in Rafael Nadal's team.

They only started working together at one tournament – last week in Cincinnati, where Raducanu forced world number one Aryna Sabalenka to a decisive tie-break.

Raducanu found success with Mark Petchey, but his obligations in the media prevented him from continuing to work with her on a permanent basis.

The test collaboration with Roig after Wimbledon, where she also faced Sabalenka in the third round, was successful, and she was pleased with her progress.

"Mark has really helped me over the last few months, but we always knew it would be challenging to continue, given his obligations," she added.

Raducanu believes that stability in training will help her enjoy tennis again and improve her performance.

"I feel happy that I find myself in such a place with my tennis," she concluded.
