The Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that currently there are no signs of Russia's readiness for negotiations with Ukraine. In an interview published in Helsingin Sanomat, he noted that Moscow seems to be continuing the war to maximize its territorial acquisitions by autumn.
Stubb expressed skepticism regarding the possibility of a meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin. He believes that the delays in negotiations from the Russian side will continue. "If the meeting was a two-sided encounter, then I consider it unlikely," he said.
The Finnish president also emphasized that the only person who can compel Putin to peace is U.S. President Donald Trump. He noted that the world is gradually approaching the possibility of achieving a peace agreement, but he hopes that Trump will not hesitate to lose patience regarding Russia.
Stubb stated that both sides can reach an agreement on a ceasefire, but it is currently important for the U.S. to continue to put pressure on Russia. He also emphasized that Finland is participating in the development of security guarantees for Ukraine, but its role in this process does not define the results of the war.
