China Confirmed Readiness to Send Peacekeepers to Ukraine
- China is ready to send peacekeepers to Ukraine under the conditions of the UN.
- In Brussels, mixed reactions are noted regarding this proposal.
- President Zelensky does not consider China a guarantor of security for Ukraine.
This was reported by Interfax Ukraine, Ukrayinska Pravda, RBC Ukraine.
China is ready to participate in a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, but only under the condition that the forces will be deployed based on a UN mandate. This was reported by the German publication Die Welt, referencing a diplomatic source in the EU.
Diplomats emphasize that this position from China has provoked mixed reactions in Brussels. They believe that the participation of countries from the Global South, such as China, could lead to a greater acceptance of foreign troops for monitoring peace.
There is also speculation that China may seek to engage in espionage in Ukraine and take a clearly pro-Russian position instead of a neutral one during the conflict. Most countries in the EU, for various reasons, are not ready to provide a mandate for potential peacekeepers at the level of the UN.
It is noted that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, does not view China as a potential guarantor of security for Ukraine, as he believes that the country does not have the ability to stop the war from the very beginning.
