Jack Draper, the British tennis player ranked number one, is ready to compete at the US Open, despite his arm injury. He revealed that he has been struggling for several months with a injury to his left arm due to a torn shoulder muscle. This was the reason for his absence from important tournaments, such as the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open, where he was hoping to return.
The 23-year-old athlete, who reached the semifinals of the US Open last year, will start his first match against Argentine qualifier Federico Agustin Gomez. Draper noted that, despite the discomfort, he does not feel that it hinders his ability to play.
“It’s an injury that requires time for recovery,” said Draper. He also emphasized that he does not plan to limit his capabilities during the game. After the loss to Wimbledon from Marin Cilic, he does not attribute the injury to his failures, wanting to emphasize that his arm started to hurt during the grass tournaments.
Following this, he returned to competition, playing in mixed doubles matches alongside American tennis player Jessica Pegula, where the team reached the quarterfinals. Draper believes that this helps him feel more confident on the court before the main matches.
The tennis player expressed optimism regarding his chances in New York, noting that he has been training intensively over the past month, which positively impacted his psychological state.
