Nigerian forces eliminated 35 Islamic militants
- The Nigerian army eliminated over 35 militants in a targeted strike.
- The operation took place in the Kumsha area near the border with Cameroon.
- The conflict in Nigeria has led to numerous casualties and the displacement of the population.
The Nigerian army reported that as a result of the targeted strikes in the northeastern region of the country, over 35 militants were killed.
The strikes were carried out in the Kumsha area, not far from the border with Cameroon, where, according to reports, Islamic militants had gathered. The Nigerian military indicated that the operation was conducted based on intelligence information from several sources.
"The precise strikes in several locations resulted in the elimination of over 35 militants in four known gathering spots," the statement from the Nigerian military forces reads.
As a result of the operation, the situation in the area was stabilized, confirming the names of the militants. However, this data has not been independently verified.
In recent months, violence in Nigeria has again increased, particularly in the northeastern region, where attacks by militants from "Boko Haram" and their affiliates from "Islamic State West Africa Province" (ISWAP) have intensified. Since the beginning of the year, Nigerian forces have reported the elimination of 592 armed militants.
The conflict in Nigeria has resulted in the deaths of approximately 40,000 people and has forced more than 2 million individuals to abandon their homes. The government of the country is facing criticism for its ineffectiveness in controlling the situation with the violence.
Apart from the militants, Nigeria is also witnessing the activity of armed gangs in the northwestern region. The government has signed an agreement with the U.S. State Department for the procurement of arms worth 346 million dollars, which requires Congressional approval.
