Pentagon Blocks Ukraine from Using Missiles Against Russia
- The Pentagon has blocked Ukraine from using ATACMS missiles against Russia.
- The ban lasted several months and only concerns certain targets.
- The USA continues to supply new weapons to Ukraine under European financing conditions.
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, since late spring 2025, the Pentagon has prevented Ukraine from using long-range missiles to strike targets on Russian territory. This ban has become part of the ongoing efforts to facilitate peaceful negotiations between the USA and Russia.
Two American officials confirmed that at one point, Ukraine sought to use ATACMS missiles, but received a denial through a mechanism that controls the provision of American weapons.
Earlier, the Biden administration allowed Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles in the fall of 2024, but this decision was limited to only certain regions, such as Kursk. Ukrainian forces have already managed to carry out strikes on Russian military facilities using these missiles.
As of today, regardless of the limitations, the USA continues to supply Ukraine with new systems of weaponry, but under the condition that European countries cover part of the expenses. The US Secretary of Defense controls the provision of ATACMS missiles, which indicates increased oversight over the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
