Cleveland Browns finished their preseason campaign with a victory over the Los Angeles Rams by a score of 19-17. The key moment of the encounter was a touchdown from 37 yards by Andre Szmit, who secured the win for the Browns in the final moments of the game.
The game took place at Huntington Bank Field. The Rams led 17-16 thanks to a touchdown from Jordan Uters with 2:08 left in the match. However, the Browns managed to execute a decisive attack, which was capped by Tyler Huntley, who ran 46 yards in six plays. Szmit realized the winning touchdown, which became his chance to solidify his place in the team after the recent trials of Dastin Hopkins.
Joe Flacco, who started the game, demonstrated a stellar performance, completing 9 of 10 passes for 71 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, rookie Dillon Gabriel also showed a strong game, finishing with 12 of 19 passes for 129 yards and one touchdown. He led the attack that set up a touchdown for Gage Laverdain before the break.
On the other side of the field, Shedur Sanders struggled to replicate his previous form, finishing with just 3 of 6 passes for 14 yards and throwing five sacks.
The game also revealed important decisions regarding the squad composition. Browns general manager, Andrew Berry, confirmed that the team would keep all four quarterbacks in the squad, which is a rare practice in the NFL.
The next game for the Browns is scheduled for September 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals, while the Rams will host the Houston Texans.
