Canadian Prime Minister Heads to Europe to Strengthen Cooperation

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will visit Poland, Germany, and Latvia from September 25 to 27 to strengthen cooperation in the fields of security and trade, the Prime Minister's Office reports.

During the visit, Carney will hold meetings with political leaders, business representatives, and NATO partners to discuss shared challenges in the areas of security, trade, energy, and critical minerals.

Warsaw, Berlin, and Riga will be key stops on his trip. In Warsaw, the Prime Minister will emphasize Canada's support in achieving lasting peace in Ukraine and Europe.

In Germany, he will meet with Chancellor Friedrich Merz to strengthen economic cooperation and address global security challenges. After this, Carney will head to Riga to strengthen bilateral relations between Latvia and Canada, particularly in the area of defense trade.

According to information, during the visit, the Prime Minister will also reaffirm Canada’s commitments regarding military and financial assistance to Ukraine, as well as discuss cooperation in the fields of climate, energy transition, and new technologies.

Canada actively supports its allies in countering the Russian aggression against Ukraine and participates in strengthening NATO's eastern flank. As part of Operation REASSURANCE, Canadian troops have already been serving in Latvia for seven years, and Canada plans to increase the number of troops in the region.

Also during the visit, the role of Canada in strengthening multilateral institutions and coordinating global efforts in the field of security will be discussed.
