Trump expresses interest in peace in Ukraine
- Trump has again stated the reduction of interest in peace negotiations in Ukraine.
- Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are stalled due to conditions that the parties are setting.
- Experts believe that Trump does not have the patience for prolonged peace processes.
Donald Trump, the President of the USA, has once again expressed his thoughts on the war in Ukraine. A week after a meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alania, he similarly noted a reduction of interest in peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Along with his words, his administration continues to contact Russian and Ukrainian officials, but public negotiations are no longer on the national agendas.
During a meeting with journalists, Trump stated that at the outset he believes that the conflict in Ukraine will be medium in complexity, but is currently not satisfied with the situation. He also mentioned that earlier he asserted that he resolved six wars, and now he has raised that number to ten, considering "previous wars". However, his promises regarding a swift achievement of peace in Ukraine remain unfulfilled.
Experts believe that negotiations between the parties are stalled due to conditions that both sides are setting before the start of any dialogues. Putin believes that the delay in time allows him to achieve military successes, while Zelensky cannot afford to make concessions that threaten Ukraine's territorial integrity. Trump, according to analysts, does not have the patience for prolonged negotiations and may simply not want to be associated with an unresolved peace process.
At the same time, while Trump continues to publicly criticize his predecessor Joe Biden, he asserts that the war in Ukraine is not his, but Biden's war. This emphasizes his desire to distance himself from the ongoing conflict, regardless of his involvement.
