On the night of August 23 to 24, Ukrainian forces delivered a strike on the oil refinery in Syzran, located in the Samara region of Russia. The operation was conducted by units of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of Ukraine in cooperation with other allied forces.

The refinery in Syzran has a projected capacity of 8.5 million tons of oil per year, which accounts for about 3.08% of the total processing capacity of oil in Russia. The facility produces gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation gas, and other oil products that are utilized by Russian military forces.

In the vicinity of the refinery, explosions have been reported, and the consequences of the strike are currently being assessed. According to information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, these actions aim to reduce the combat potential of the Russian military and destabilize their logistical capabilities.

On the same night, Ukrainian forces also carried out a strike on the sea terminal Ust-Luga, which is used by Russia to bypass international sanctions, as well as on several other logistical facilities of the Russian military.
