U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance expressed confidence that the conflict in Ukraine could be resolved within three to six months through active diplomacy and international engagement. He noted that recently Russia was forced to acknowledge that it cannot re-establish a marionette regime in Kyiv, and Ukraine will retain its territorial integrity after the war.
Vance emphasized that he wants Russia to not back down in everything, but the recognition of Ukraine's territorial integrity is an important step. He also pointed out that former President Donald Trump was more beneficial for Russia than his predecessor Joe Biden.
During the interview, Vance discussed the possibility of a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump, after negotiations with European leaders, stated that Putin is ready to meet, but initially wants to hold preliminary bilateral negotiations.
Vance expressed hope that the meeting could take place next week, regardless of some European leaders' doubts about Putin's willingness to engage in dialogue. He noted that Americans can write to their president, who is actively trying to stop the killings in Ukraine.
In conclusion, Vance stated that while negotiations may be complicated, he remains optimistic about the possibility of achieving peace through active diplomacy.
