Emma Raducanu, the British tennis player, achieved her first victory at the US Open since winning the title in 2021, having previously defeated Japanese qualifier Ena Shibahara with a score of 6-1, 6-2. This victory was significant for Raducanu, especially since she had not won a match at this tournament for several years.
In 2022, Raducanu lost in the first round, and in 2023 she missed the tournament due to wrist and ankle surgeries. She returned to the court in 2024 but again suffered a defeat in her first match.
The victory over Shibahara was symbolic, as Raducanu noted that she was very happy to return to winning in New York. Her new coach, Francisco Roig, who previously worked with Rafael Nadal, provides her with confidence and support during matches.
Raducanu dominated the game, quickly taking a 5-0 lead in the first set, and also successfully executed her serves. In the future, she awaits tougher opponents, and in the next round, she is likely to meet the 24th seed Veronika Kudermetova.
