Investigation Launched Over Banner by Crystal Palace Fans

  • The FA is investigating a banner by Crystal Palace fans
  • The banner features images of Marinkas and Gibbs-White
  • The dispute between the clubs has escalated due to a UEFA ruling

The English Football Association (FA) has begun an investigation into a banner that was displayed by Crystal Palace fans during the match against Nottingham Forest. The banner depicts the owner of Nottingham, Evangelos Marinkas, who sits next to head coach Morgan Gibbs-White.

This banner was shown in the lower section of Selhurst Park during the game that took place on August 24. Earlier, Gerald at Nottingham expressed the intention to issue a sanction for the banner, and the club is awaiting the Premier League and FA to conduct an investigation.

The banner of Gibbs-White contains a dialogue window with the inscription: "Mr. Marinkas, you are not occupying yourself with shantytowns, contractual matches, narcoterrorism, or corruption!" Marinkas has always categorically denied these allegations.

In addition to Gibbs-White, the banner also features Marinkas with a wallet, repurposed with money, and also a delegate from UEFA, who stands next to mice with the inscription "correspondence". The banner also shows the former Crystal Palace shareholder John Textor in the image of a clown.

At the same time, the dispute between Crystal Palace and Nottingham has escalated since the first teams lost their places in the League of Europe, while others were punished for violating UEFA rules regarding multi-club ownership. The UEFA ruling was confirmed by the Sports Arbitration Court (CAS) at the beginning of this month.

In the statement, Crystal Palace indicates that banners should not contain non-normative language or offensive images, and the club reserves the right to refuse the demonstration of banners that they consider offensive.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw with goals from Ismaila Sarr and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Crystal Palace fans also expressed their outrage regarding the manager of Nottingham, Nunu Espírito Santo, who stated the need to establish relations with the club's owner Marinkas.
