Russian Foreign Minister Outlines Condition for Ukraine's Recognition
- Lavrov outlined the condition for recognizing Ukraine regarding territories.
- The U.S. Vice President mentioned Russia's steps in negotiations.
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine noted progress in security guarantees.
About this reports RBC Ukraine, Ukrayinska Pravda.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made a new statement regarding Ukraine, stating that it has "the right to recognition," which "would allow people to be released." He voiced this information during an interview with NBC News.
Lavrov also placed under suspicion the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the notion that "the Russian and Ukrainian peoples are one people," considering this to be untrue. He asserts that Ukraine should withdraw from the territory where Russia conducted pseudo-referendums about annexation.
In particular, Lavrov pointed to the results of referendums in temporarily occupied regions, asserting that these territories have expressed their desire to belong to Russia.
When asked by a journalist whether he knows that most people in the occupied territories do not wish for Russian annexation, Lavrov replied that people voted in the referendums, expressing their opinion.
He also avoided a direct answer to the question about Russia's invasion of Ukraine, calling it "a special military operation" to protect people.
Currently, U.S. Vice President J. D. Vance noted that Russia is compelled to make some concessions. The Kremlin acknowledged that it is impossible to establish a "puppet regime" in Kyiv, and that Ukraine will maintain its territorial integrity after the war.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed the view that Kyiv, the U.S., and European partners will continue to make progress on security issues, regardless of Moscow's attempts to disrupt the peaceful process. However, the Kremlin is not ready for a meeting, imposing additional conditions.
