On August 24, 2025, a flight with Russian tourists, which was heading to Saint Petersburg, was forced to make an emergency landing in Tallin due to the closure of Pulkovo airport in Saint Petersburg. The closure was related to a night drone attack, reports the Estonian publication Postimees.
The flight, belonging to the Egyptian airline AlMasria Universal Airlines, landed in Tallin at 5:33 local time. According to Margot Hults, the head of marketing and communications at Tallinna Airport, the flight could not land in Pulkovo due to its temporary closure.
The flight departed from Tallinna at 11:08 and continued its route to Saint Petersburg. During the time spent on the ground in Tallinna, passengers and crew had no right to leave the aircraft.
The closure of Pulkovo airport was a consequence of an attack that caused damage to several facilities in Russia, including fires in Usty-Luga and near the Kursk nuclear power plant. According to observers, ten drones were recorded over the Usty-Luga port, the reasons for which caused the fires.
