Hannah Botterman, a prop for the England team, announced her ambition to be the "best loosehead prop in the world" following an impressive performance in the opening match of the World Rugby Championship. In the game against the USA at the "Stadium of Light" on September 22, 2025, she helped her team secure a victory with a score of 69-7.
Botterman, who is 26 years old, was one of the key players in this tournament, having scored one of the twelve tries. She emphasized that she is determined to work on her form during the off-season and not to lose sight of her goals.
"I want to cement this in this tournament. It was a great start, but I feel that I can give even more," she said. Botterman also noted that she feels physically ready for the challenges that lie ahead.
In the match against the USA, she missed her attempt after a wonderful team move, describing the moment as "surreal." "To score for your country – that's amazing, but to do it in the first match of the World Championship in front of 40,000 spectators – that's a unique feeling," she added.
England, who are favorites of the tournament, will continue their appearances in Group A against Samoa on September 30 and Australia on October 6. Botterman is confident that the team can show even better results in the upcoming matches.
