- The 51st season of SNL will premiere on NBC on October 4.
- Lorne Michaels plans to make changes to the cast of the program.
- James Austin Johnson will return to the role of President Trump.
Lorne Michaels, the creator of Saturday Night Live, shared plans for the new, 51st season of the program. In a recent interview, he confirmed that he plans to change the cast of the show, which has been airing since 1975.
Michaels noted that last season, during the celebration of the 50th anniversary, he wanted the actors to return to the show, so there were no significant changes to the cast. He expressed a desire to "refresh" the program after the jubilee season, and mentioned that the new changes to the cast will be announced soon.
The 51st season of SNL will start on NBC on October 4. New episodes of the program will air on Saturdays, and the following day they may be available for streaming on Peacock.
While Michaels has not revealed details about the new cast, he confirmed that James Austin Johnson will return to the role of President Donald Trump. Among the actors who participated in the 50th season were Mike Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Kenan Thompson, and others.
Regarding his future on the show, Michaels stated that he does not plan to retire: "I don’t feel like I’m done," he said in the summer. He also noted that in recent years more people have been taking part in making decisions in the program.
