Cal Raleigh Sets New Season Record for Home Runs with 49

  • Cal Raleigh broke the season record for home runs, hitting 49 home runs.
  • He became the first player to hit a home run in all games with home runs.
  • Raleigh has the potential to break the franchise record of 56 home runs in a season.

Seattle Mariners player Cal Raleigh, last week against the Oakland Athletics, hit his 48th and 49th home runs, setting a new season record for home runs in MLB. He surpassed the previous record held by Salvador Perez of the Kansas City Royals, who hit 48 home runs in 2021.

Raleigh, who is from the east side of the state, opened the scoring in the first inning when he sent the ball into the stands approximately 448 feet. This was the longest home run of his career from the right side. In the second inning, he hit another home run, sending it 412 feet.

These two home runs became the 39th and 40th for Raleigh this season. He also has nine home runs when playing as a designated hitter. Only four other players in major league history have hit over 40 home runs, primarily playing as a catcher: Johnny Bench, Roy Campanella, Todd Hundley, and Mike Piazza.

Raleigh became a participant in the All-Star Game at the age of 28 and won the home run derby in July, becoming the first player to achieve this feat. Currently, after 31 games in the completed regular season, he has the potential to break the franchise record of Ken Griffey Jr. with 56 home runs in a season.

At this moment, Raleigh has 104 RBIs, becoming the first player with two consecutive seasons of 100 RBIs since Piazza (1996-2000) and the first American League player to achieve this milestone since the time of Thurman Munson (1975-77).
