Discussion of strategies for the protection of critical minerals in Ukraine

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and US Special Representative Kit Kellogg discussed the issue of security and the exploitation of critical minerals in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. This meeting focused on the real guarantees of security for Ukraine, which should be enshrined in the UN Charter and recognize the sovereignty of the country.

Svyrydenko noted that real security guarantees include a strong army and economy. She emphasized the importance of preserving the combat potential of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and developing its own defense industry. The priority also remains the protection of all citizens of Ukraine who are illegally detained by Russia, including military personnel, civilians, and abducted children.

In addition, the Prime Minister condemned Russia's attempts to legalize the extraction of critical minerals in occupied territories. She pointed out that any attempt to legalize this extraction is unacceptable. Svyrydenko added that the USA sees potential for deeper cooperation in investments, partnerships with the restoration, and new technologies, particularly in the field of defense.

It is recalled that earlier Ukraine disclosed data on reserves of critical minerals, such as lithium, gold, and titanium resources, to attract investors. In April, Ukraine and the USA signed an agreement on the creation of an investment fund, and in June, they began the implementation of initial steps under this agreement.
