Back in the Fold: Fred Johnson Returns to Philadelphia

  • Fred Johnson has returned to the Eagles as part of a trade with the Jaguars.
  • Darian Kinnard was traded to the Green-Bay for a pick in the draft.
  • The Eagles are actively making deals to strengthen the roster.

The Philadelphia Eagles made two significant agreements over the weekend. First, they brought back offensive tackle Fred Johnson from the Jacksonville Jaguars for a pick in the seventh round of the 2026 draft. Secondly, they traded reserve linebacker Darian Kinnard for a pick in the sixth round of the 2027 draft to the Green-Bay Packers. This information was confirmed by a source close to the agreement.

The first decision regarding Johnson's return was a response to the instability in the linebacker position of the team. After his departure as a free agent, the Eagles sought to find a replacement, signing Meta Pryor and Kendal Lamm, but their productivity did not meet expectations during the preparation for the season.

Fred Johnson already has experience with the Eagles, having played the last two seasons with the team, where he appeared in 34 games, six of which were as a starter in 2024.

Kinnard, a 25-year-old player, was selected in the fifth round of the 2022 draft by the Kansas City team. Last season, he played with the Eagles, but did not manage to solidify a place in the main roster. His role remained undefined, which prompted the decision to trade.

Johnson's return to Philadelphia aims to strengthen the offensive line, which has been struggling with injuries, particularly left tackle Jordan Mailata and left guard Landon Dickerson. The team's general manager Howie Roseman continues to actively seek opportunities to improve the roster, having made five deals this summer.
