Juventus condemns racist comments directed at Weston McKennie

  • Juventus condemned racist comments directed at McKennie
  • The club will cooperate with authorities to identify those responsible
  • This incident is part of a broader problem of racism in football

In the US, midfielder Weston McKennie reported racist comments after Juventus won 2-0 against Parma in a Serie A match that took place on August 25. The club stated that McKennie was subjected to "discriminatory racist remarks" from some spectators during the match on the field.

In a statement, Juventus indicated: "We resolutely condemn this incident and any manifestation of racism, and we will also ensure full cooperation with the sports justice authorities to identify those responsible."

McKennie, who joined Juventus in 2020, came on as a substitute in a match in Turin, where Canadian forward Jonathan David scored a goal in his debut in Serie A for Juventus.

This incident is the latest in a series of accusations of racism in European football. In 2023, Fiorentina received a partial stadium ban after racist insults directed at McKennie and other Juventus players.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino recently characterized incidents of racist abuse, which took place during matches of the German Cup, as "unacceptable". It is also reported about the arrest of a man in Britain under suspicion of racist abuse towards Bournemouth player Antoine Semenyo during a Premier League match on September 16.
