Emma Raducanu reveals about her new coach Francisco Roig

  • Emma Raducanu achieved a convincing win in the first round of the US Open.
  • The new coach helps Raducanu reduce her perfectionism.
  • The athlete feels comfortable at the US Open after several challenging years.

This is reported by Sky Sports, ESPN.

Emma Raducanu, the British tennis player, shared that her new coach Francisco Roig helps her not to be a perfectionist ahead of the second round of the US Open. After her convincing victory over Japanese qualifier Ena Shibahara with a score of 6-1, 6-2, Raducanu will take to the court against another qualifier, Yui Kamiji, in the middle of the week.

The 22-year-old athlete has spent most of the season without a permanent coach, signing a contract with Roig, former coach of Rafael Nadal, at the beginning of September after a trial period in July. Raducanu noted that Roig helps her be less hard on herself, which is very important during competitions.

Raducanu mentioned that during matches, she finds it hard to hear the coach's instructions due to the noise of the crowd, but she tries to focus on her game. The tennis player also emphasized that she enjoys working with Roig, as he brings calmness and support, which help her concentrate.

Raducanu feels comfortable again at the US Open, comparing her mood to previous years. She has once again become the top-ranked player in Great Britain and is eagerly awaiting the continuation of the competition, performing at her best thanks to consistent training with Roig.
