The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky urged Canada to engage in significant energy projects, which are being discussed by the energy ministers of both countries. During a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on August 24, Zelensky emphasized the importance of energy cooperation for stability in Ukraine and Europe.
Zelensky noted that Ukraine needs essential infrastructure and capacity for gas storage, which could be utilized for the supply of Canadian gas. He expressed hope that energy ministers will hold a separate meeting soon to discuss the implementation of these projects.
Canada also plans to support the attraction of private investors for the implementation of reconstruction projects in Ukraine after the war. This will be facilitated by various investment banks and export-credit agencies, such as Export Development Canada.
Leaders of both countries discussed joint energy projects in the fields of hydrogen energy, small modular reactors, and oil and gas, and also addressed deepening cooperation in energy security, cybersecurity, and infrastructure protection.
