The Finnish President Considers Russia's Demands Typical Negotiation Tactics That Cannot Be Accepted

  • Stubbs considers Russia's demands unacceptable and unfulfillable.
  • Comparing Putin's conditions to the territories of the USA underscores their absurdity.
  • Finland supports Ukraine's independence and sovereignty.

This was reported by Ukrayinska Pravda, Interfax Ukraine.

President of Finland Alexander Stubbs stated that Russia's demands in the negotiations regarding the end of the war are unacceptable and reflect typical tactics used in negotiations. In his view, the Kremlin is hastily making demands that cannot be accepted.

Stubbs noted that Russia has been trying for a long time to seize Donbas, but has made no significant progress. He explained that such conditions, like Ukraine's refusal to join NATO and the transfer of all of Donbas, are unacceptable.

The President of Finland compared Putin's demands to the situation in the USA, where it would be similar to refusing from states like Florida or Georgia to create a supermajority that leads to New York. "This is practically impossible," he added.

Stubbs also emphasized the importance of Ukraine's security, stating that the main guarantors of security are Ukraine itself, as well as support from Europe and the USA. He stressed that Russia cannot dictate how other countries should act on security issues.

The president also drew a parallel between the current situation in Ukraine and Finland's experience with the Soviet Union in the past century, emphasizing the importance of independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
