Trump threatens ABC and NBC with license revocation
- Trump criticizes ABC and NBC for negative coverage.
- The President proposes to revoke the licenses of these networks.
- Polls show mixed support for Trump among Americans.
Main Facts
U.S. President Donald Trump recently revealed news networks ABC and NBC, calling them "the most biased" in history. He claims that their coverage of his presidency is extremely negative, and proposes that these networks lose their licenses for speaking out against the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The possibility of license revocation was mentioned in his posts on the Truth Social platform.
In his publications, Trump stated that 97% of news about him is negative, regardless of the fact that he considers his first eight months in office to be successful. According to him, such editorial policies indicate the dependence of these networks on the Democratic Party.
Trump also stated that if the networks are indeed "a tool of the Democratic Party," then, along with the thought of many, their licenses should be revoked by the FCC. He emphasized that he supports this initiative and called for an increase in fees for licenses, which are currently not being collected from broadcasters.
Context and Previous Conflicts
Trump's comments arise against the backdrop of his ongoing conflicts with major media outlets. In July, he managed to regulate a lawsuit against CBS News for $16 million and reached an agreement for $15 million with ABC over a label. Moreover, FCC Chair Brendan Carr recently began investigating Comcast (the parent company of NBCUniversal) regarding programming diversity and relations with local affiliates of NBC.
State of the Congressional Committee
Despite Trump's aggressive rhetoric, his approval rating among Americans remains mixed. According to a poll conducted from September 15 to 18, 56% of Americans somewhat or completely disapprove of his actions in office, while 40% express support.
