Consequences of the Decision of Lebanon Regarding the Disbandment of Hezbollah

  • Lebanon plans to disband Hezbollah by the end of 2025.
  • Israel is ready to shorten military presence in response.
  • The USA is pressing Lebanon to carry out the disbandment.

The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, expressed support for the "historic decision" of the Lebanese government regarding the disbandment of Hezbollah by the end of 2025. He noted that this could lead to the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the country.

Netanyahu emphasized that Lebanon has already taken necessary measures for the disbandment of Hezbollah, and Israel will respond with reciprocal measures, including potentially shortening military contingents in southern Lebanon.

After the conclusion of the war between Israel and Hezbollah in November 2024, which ended with the mediation of the USA, Hezbollah representatives stated that they would not discuss their disbandment until Israel withdraws its troops from five regions that it controls in Lebanon, and will not stop major ongoing operations that have caused significant damage, including to members of Hezbollah.

Beirut is under pressure from the USA to disband the group, which recently waged a 14-month war with Israel and caused significant losses among its political and military leaders.
