At the 2025 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, the Ukrainian team won a gold medal in group events. The competition took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on August 24. The Ukrainians, consisting of Yelizaveta Azzi, Diana Baieva, Kyryna Shyriakina, Oleksandra Yushak, and Valeriya Peremety, competed in the final with three hoops and two ribbons, scoring 28.650 points.
This victory is particularly significant as it brings Ukraine its first gold in group events after 23 years. The last time Ukrainian gymnasts won gold at the World Championships was in 2002, when they triumphed in competitions with five ribbons. This year, the Ukrainian team also secured a bronze medal in team competitions.
The team was led by Iryna Blokhina, who successfully united the athletes after numerous injuries and changes in the squad. The climatic conditions in Brazil and logistical difficulties posed additional challenges for the team, which arrived in Rio on August 18, while the competition began on August 20.
