In Germany, an American who worked at a U.S. military base is accused of attempting to pass sensitive information to a Chinese intelligence officer. Prosecutors reported that the individual, known only as Martin D., was arrested in Frankfurt at the beginning of November 2024.
According to the indictment, he worked in a civilian capacity for the U.S. Department of Defense since 2017 and from 2020 at a newly established U.S. military base in Germany. In July 2024, Martin D. allegedly connected with Chinese state agencies, offering to provide sensitive information about U.S. military affairs.
German authorities report that the arrest did not manage to transfer any data to the Chinese side. The court in Koblenz is now to decide whether to refer the case to trial and when this will happen.
