- The player wants to stay at the club but has a high release clause.
- Clubs are working on selling players before the transfer window closes.
Arsenal Football Club is working on a deal to sign Piero Hincapié, a defender from Bayer Leverkusen, who is expected to sell several players before the transfer window closes.
Hincapié, who signed a contract with Leverkusen until June 2029, has expressed a desire to leave the club. The German team is not keen on letting him go unless the €60 million release clause is activated, but negotiations will take place to lower the price to a more realistic figure.
The defender favors a move to Arsenal, which is ready to activate its funds if several players are sold. Following the team’s 2-1 loss to Hoffenheim, Hincapié appeared on the field with a bandage on his arm.
Hincapié, who plays as a left center-back, can also perform the role of a left-back. He joined Leverkusen from the Argentine club CA Talleres in 2021 and has become one of the most effective defenders in Europe.
In four seasons in Germany, Hincapié has played 166 matches for Leverkusen and 46 matches for the Ecuador national team. In the new season, he has already participated in two games for Leverkusen.
Leverkusen has lost several key players, which has hindered the team’s success, including Florian Wirtz and Granit Xhaka.
Hincapié has been an important part of the team that won the Bundesliga and the German Cup in the 2023-24 seasons, and he shone during the Copa America in 2021.
