The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine decided to protest against the participation of American director Woody Allen in the Moscow International Film Festival, which takes place on August 24.
The statement from the ministry states that Allen's participation in the festival is "a disgrace and an insult" to the memory of Ukrainian actors and cinematographers who were killed or were affected as a result of Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
The ministry emphasized that by participating in a festival that supports Putin's regime, Allen consciously ignores the horrors that Russia has been committing in Ukraine for the past 11 years. They stressed that culture should not be used to justify crimes or any propaganda instrument.
Woody Allen participated in the festival via video link, where he discussed the future of cinema in the context of the development of artificial intelligence.
