The President of Poland vetoed the bill on social assistance for Ukrainians
- The President of Poland vetoed the bill on social assistance for Ukrainians.
- The veto is related to changes in the municipal council and the financial situation in Poland.
- Naowarczik proposes new decisions regarding the provision of community assistance.
This is reported by Ukrayinska Pravda, Interfax Ukraine.
The President of Poland, Karol Naowarczik, refused to sign the amendment to the bill, which provided additional support for Ukrainians fleeing the war. He noted that the strategic interests of Poland have not changed despite three full years of Russia's aggressive war, but the financial situation and the municipal council in the country have significantly changed.
Naowarczik emphasized that the legislation does not consider amendments that were publicly discussed. He believes that assistance in the amount of 800+ zlotys should only be provided to those Ukrainians who work in Poland. According to him, it is necessary to achieve a certain level of social equity, and Poles should have equal rights with Ukrainian refugees.
The vetoed law also provided for the extension of temporary protection for Ukrainians until April 4, 2026. Naowarczik presented his own draft law, which proposes new decisions regarding the provision of community assistance and strengthening penalties for illegal border crossing.
