National Guard Begins Patrolling Washington at Trump's Order
- The National Guard has started patrolling Washington at Trump's direction.
- The president plans to send troops to Chicago and Baltimore.
- Democrats are speaking out against the deployment of military forces in cities.
The National Guard of the USA has started patrolling Washington, D.C., under the leadership of President Donald Trump, who has instructed certain units to carry weapons. This decision is part of the deployment of military forces that was approved last week.
On Sunday, August 24, members of the National Guard, including those from Southern Carolina, were seen with pistols on their belts in the Union state. The military received appropriate training and are acting in accordance with strict rules of engagement.
Guardsmen will be armed only during the execution of certain tasks, such as those involving transportation and administrative issues, remaining unarmed otherwise. Thousands of guardsmen and federal law enforcement are currently patrolling the streets of Washington, which has sparked protest actions among local residents.
Trump is also considering the possibility of deploying the National Guard to other cities controlled by Democrats, such as Chicago and Baltimore. In response to a request from Governor Maryland Wes Moore to join the march on community safety issues, Trump stated that he could "send in the troops" to combat crime.
Governor Moore and other Democrats expressed their disapproval of Trump's actions, considering them politically motivated, especially since the crime rate in Baltimore is decreasing. They also noted that there is no need for military presence, as crime in Chicago is also decreasing.
According to recent data, the level of racism in Washington is the lowest it has been in the last 30 years. Meanwhile, Trump continues to attack the deployment of military forces, accusing Democrats of manipulating crime data.
In response to a statement from the governor of Illinois J.B. Pritzker, the president's actions are not justified, as the state does not have an extraordinary situation that would require military presence.
