Brianna Decker has joined the PWHL Frost team as an assistant

Brianna Decker, a former hockey player for the USA national team, has taken on a new role in hockey after finishing her career due to a serious injury. In 2022, during the Olympic Games in Beijing, she suffered a knee injury that forced her to retire from competing at the highest level at the age of 30. Prior to that, Decker had a plan "B" — a coaching career.

After six years of working as an assistant with USA Hockey and at the Shattuck-St. Mary's preparatory school, she became an assistant coach for the Minnesota Frost, which is a two-time champion of the PWHL. This announcement was made public on August 25, 2025.

Decker, who is a two-time Olympic medalist and six-time world champion, expressed her passion for hockey, stating that she is excited to take on a coaching role. "I am very happy that I am not playing anymore. I accepted this. I enjoy coaching just as much as I enjoyed playing," she said.

She will work under the leadership of head coach Ken Klee, with whom she is already familiar, as he previously coached under his guidance in the national team. Decker will also return to a team where her former teammates play, such as captain Kendall Coyne Schofield and forward Kelly Pannek.

Decker has significant coaching experience, including three years as an associate head coach at Shattuck and four years with the USA youth team. Her appointment to the Frost team is also linked to her induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2025.

Ken Klee noted that Decker has "exceptional experience in success, leadership, and vision," which will be a tremendous asset for the team. He believes that she will focus on developing young players in the team.
