- xAI accuses Apple and OpenAI of colluding to stifle competition
- The lawsuit was filed in the federal court of the United States in Texas
- Musk has previously threatened legal action against companies over App Store policies
Main Information
The artificial intelligence startup xAI, founded by Elon Musk, has filed a lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI in the federal court of the United States in Texas on August 25, 2025. The lawsuit alleges that these companies illegally conspired to suppress competition in the field of artificial intelligence.
According to the documents, Apple and OpenAI blocked markets to maintain their monopoly and to prevent innovators, such as xAI, from competing. The lawsuit claims that the agreement between Apple and OpenAI resulted in the companies being unable to actively promote their programs in the App Store.
Earlier this month, Musk threatened to sue Apple, claiming that their behavior is detrimental to other companies achieving top positions in the App Store. Along with the lawsuit, the partnership between Apple and OpenAI integrated the ChatGPT platform into iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
xAI was founded less than two years ago and competes with OpenAI, which is backed by Microsoft, as well as with the Chinese startup DeepSeek. Musk also filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman in California, seeking to halt OpenAI's transition from a non-profit to a for-profit organization.
